Etnia Barcelona | Spain
David Pellicer, founder of Etnia Barcelona, was the one who continued his grandfather, Fulgencio Ramo, passion for glasses. Fulgencio worked for years on the factory floor of a sunglasses company in Barcelona, until he was finally able to create his own factory in Poble Sec in the 50’s. With two generations worth of inherent values, and an abundance of acquired knowledge, fresh-faced David eagerly entered into the company, ready to create something new. David introduced color into an accessory that had always been brown or black. Red or yellow sunglasses didn’t exist before then, nor did glasses that combined two or three colors. When deciding that he wanted to start his own company, David knew that he did not just want to manufacture glasses, but he wanted to leave a mark - to create a brand. He finished his first collection while still living with his grandfather, Fulgencio Ramo, who congratulated him on his designs and his modern frames, and for this incorporation of color into an industry that had never seen it before. He boasts bold designs for all types of people, meeting the global fit criteria to make the line accessible to any ethnicity, which actually inspired the name Etnia Barcelona. He also created never before seen color ways that emphasize the personality within individual faces, and has had cost adjustments that give the company a competitive edge.

WOOW | France
WOOW Eyewear is a new brand from the creative minds at Face à Face. Designers Nadine Roth and Pascal Jaulent show off their playfulness with this new collection that is full of color and has a great sense of humor. The temple tips of each frame are accented with metal inserts boasting a motivational phrase intended to inspire. From "Rock Me!" to "Well Done!" written in a vintage-inspired typewriter font. The frames are characterized by a unicolor front and “sleeved” two-toned temples, the end tip bearing a little “poking” message. The tip has soft, rounded metallic insert, covered by a thin layer of resin and is inspired by the superb keys of old typewriters. The eyewear company works with volumes, shapes, materials, colors and textures to give its glasses the power to express the personality of the wearer. The range of colors, and acetate laminations, the matt and shiny finishes, transparency, details and volumes express some of Face à Face's strongest design themes. Moreover, they determine to the wearer the very high quality of the frames. Face à Face cuts its frames from the very beautiful acetates produced by Mazzuchelli, an Italian company, the world leader in acetate production. Acetate is a natural material and is therefore highly non-allergenic.

State Optical Co. | USA

Sate Optical is an American brand created by Jason Stanley and Marc Franchi. Their dream was to create a line of luxury eyewear not only headquartered or designed in America, but actually manufactured in the USA. Together, with the aid of experienced frame designer Blake Kuwahara, who created 12 ophthalmic and six sunglass frames for the STATE’s “Made in America” collection, which made its official debut last September. Kuwahara’s vision was brought to life in a beautiful new state-of-the art facility outside Chicago where specially trained American workers undertake at least 35 steps to produce each frame (and up to 70 steps for ultra-luxury models). Over 50% of the production is done by hand in a painstaking process that requires a full two weeks. These frames are not molded, but rather are cut from blocks of material, then the details are cut into the frame and the pieces are hand polished. At the end of each temple, you’ll find a pyramid of 21 points that represent Illinois as 21st state.

Thierry Lasry | France
Thierry Lasry is a French designer born in Paris. He launched his eponymous eyewear brand late 2006. Raised in a highly creative environment by a father who was an Optician and a mother who was a designer, he has elevated the status of sunglasses and managed to redesign them into a fashion accessory. Entirely hand-made with the best craftsmanship techniques, the frames only use acetate from the reputable Italian manufacturer Mazzucchelli. The flat fronts give retro-inspired shapes - a futuristic twist. Most of the frames feature layered extra blocks of acetate on the back of the fronts using a process more akin to sculpture than to regular cutting techniques. Each design features clear lines, geometrical shapes and surprising color. There are no outside logos, the brand’s name is hidden from the eye, discreetly engraved inside the temples.

Lucas De Stael | France
In the world of eyewear, Lucas de Staël has become a repeat winner. He crafts frames out of leather, including his Minotaure line, made of cow skin, and separate collection made of goat-skin, which he dubbed “Monsieur Seguin”. The frames have hinged temples and high caliber stainless steel between layers of leather for durability. But don’t think boring leather shades like in shoe wear. Think attention-getting mod colors. His latest innovation is eyewear made of genuine stone like granite, slate and pearl schist. He has two lines using thin stone cuts, including “Petrus” made of a stone front and stone temples. The material is so thin that it actually bends. He used a metal skeleton to provide support while minimizing weight.
